Luke went in for surgery today. This is our first experience with surgery on one of our children. His surgery was called: Meatourethroplasty with urethral advancement. May be kind of embarassing for him so if you want to know the specifics, you'll have to look it up. This was a very simple outpatient surgery, so not much to worry about but he did have a general anethesia, so that is always kind of scary. AND with this being our first experience with surgery on one of our children, it is kind of scary!!!

He did great. He was very brave and handled everything very well (except taking the initial medicine to make him super happy.) He was supposed to take this like Tylenol, in a cup. He is not our medicine child (Ethan and Linz will take medicine at any time with no problems, Luke fights it to the death.) We had to strap him down to squirt this into his mouth.
Nate was supposed to be the one to take Luke in for his surgery. He took the afternoon off of work so he could take Luke in and the hospital called to move up the surgery time 2 times on us. So, Nate literally got to see Luke for 2 minutes RIGHT as they were wheeling him into the OR.
The nurses were so great at the hospital, Luke got to pick a prize for him (slinky) and one for his sister (who I had to take with me, since they moved the time up - a purse.) The nurse let Luke pick out his smell flavor for his laughing gas and rub it into his mask himself. He picked watermelon. He got to watch TV as the happy medicine kicked in. They say this stuff just makes them very happy and not really fully realizing what is happening so that the kids aren't terrified as they are wheeled away from their parents and into some strange place.
It worked great, he left us with no problems and we were sent to wait with the millions (ok 20 or so) other people waiting for loved ones to come out of surgery. Side note: the Dr. Nate works for was doing cataract surgery that same day in the same place Luke had his surgery so we got to meet a few of her patients.Luke did great, was a little tired and sad right after surgery. We took him home and just hung out the rest of the day. We kept him home from school the next day, then he was fine to go back. He recovered very well, just had to apply some cream stuff a few times a day for 2 weeks and he was good to go.
He must not be too embarrased about this stuff yet, because he told several friends at school and one of them told his teacher. (She knew he was having surgery, but not what for.)
He is doing great now and the bills are just starting to roll in, so we will get to try out our insurance on this trial run before the baby is born.
